I've been on a smoothie kick for about eight months. I used to think you couldn't truly get full from one of these guys, but I was wrong. It's a quick and easy way to start off the day (or works well as snack) and is portable- huge bonus. Plus, it gets a lot of healthy stuff going through your body at the beginning of the day. The flaxseed is good for omega-3s and fiber... which few of us are getting enough of. Whey protein powder helps build muscle, manage weight, and helps prevent diabetes, cancer and heart disease. And I'm assuming most of us know why fruit and dairy does you good. This recipe is meant to be more of a general guide. I often will add different fruit- I love pineapple, mango, and raspberries. I'm also always looking to add interesting new things to the mix. Fruta Vida recently sent us a packets of Go! Vida: Smoothie boosts made up of acai, cupuacu and yerba mate (coincidentally, three of the superfoods Andrew talked about on the TODAY show a few weeks ago). Another fun addition is- and I know this might sound weird- Grape Nuts. It adds a nice crunch. recipe (any time, breakfast)Apple and Brown Sugar Muffins

Here is a great recipe for the end of apple season, as many
of us get tired of eating them out of hand, and need a way to utilize all the
apples in the fridge that have seen some better days. Many of the late-season apples
are perfect to use for this delicious muffin; almost any will work.
Make an extra batch, these don't last long on the kitchen
counter. recipe (breakfast, eggs, vegetable, side dish)Easy Spinach Souffles
By andrew.zimmern on Mon, 07/30/2007 - 18:40
These rustic spinach soufflés are the perfect complement to the Easter ham or the Passover brisket or for any brunch, and the no-worries 'fallen' souffle option that is twice-baked is the way I do these at home—it makes for a crustier, textural final product and gives me the do-ahead capability that I look for when guests come over to the house. This will make 12 4 oz souffles, or 4 14 oz souffles. |
