Big, Fat Tax

Looks like New Yorkers may have to shell out more cash for nondiet beverages as a part of a proposed "Obesity Tax". Hmm... last time I checked, it seemed both diet and nondiet drinks aren't good for you. And what about the thousands and thousands of other foods deemed unhealthy? It's a sippery slope, my friend.

Sweet Gift Idea
Check out my friend David Lebovitz's list of favorite cookbooks of the year. He's a serious authority on all things sweet, so any of these books are a perfect gift for the baker in your life.

Street Smarts
Check out World Hum's list of the 8 Best Cities for Street Food. A few of my favorites are on there-- Vietnam and Mexico City. Any spots you think they missed? What's your favorite street food?

SIN TAX

I am in the food and beverage industry. Guess what!?!? Be prepared for the next wave of taxes. The sin tax. This will be going on booze, movie tickets, restraunts, and much more. All because of the multi billion dollar bailout. My company is already mobilizing to fight this. The dumb asses in congress don't seem to realize by double(or this now triple) taxation, they will be hurting the economy more People are already pulling back and saving. Right now our on premise purchases are down almost 30 percent. That is booze bought in restraunts. However, off premise has gone up 35 percent, which is good for us but still bad for restraunts. Now add a new sin tax to this and you will see an even bigger reduction.

Rediculous

Obesity tax?!  My husband GUZZLES coca cola and is underweight where as if I have one diet coke too many I put on a few pounds.  What types of foods make everyone universally fat?  Last time I checked it's a debated issue.  I'm with you, a slippery slope indeed!
