My Favorite Spot for Tuna

fish head.jpg
Pictures bring back so many memories. My pal Oyaji’s restaurant Kurobotei, located in a small seaside village on the Japanese Big Island about 3 hours outside of Tokyo, serves some amazing tuna. The melting grilled tuna with soy-mirin syrup and sashimi tasting plate of 11 cuts from one fish is some of the best that I have ever had….Oh yeah, they also will roast a whole head on request and let you have at it. I love this place.

"Oyaji Oishi" restaurant in Miura-shi

It's only 80 minutes by train from Tokyo; faster if you take the Shinkansen to Yokohama where you transfer to the Keikyu Main Line for Miura-kaigan. I'll have to stop by some time and try that tuna head (with friends to help defray the cost).

Important

Dear Andrew, I watch your program in travel&living "comidas exóticas" last Monday, about Mexico and its food. I should say that was pretty exciting watch my country and the food I enjoy every day and every time I travel. I love my country, its traditions, colours, people, smells and averything around. Maybe you know that armadillos (this beautiful mammals with a very hard shell) are in very dangerous situation, its population has been dropped exponentially in the last 20 years. I've never seen one, because everybody had been eaten them and nobody cares about its preservation. I'm not against eatting meat, but I'm very concern because of your stimulation to eat armadillo, I suppose that your program is seen around the world, so maybe you can use this power to protect wildlife or at least NOT stimulate its consume. I'm sorry to put this message here, but unfortunately I couldn't find any other place or email address to contact you. Please help me to protect this beautiful and vast country against the voracious people. Thank you for your time and sorry because of my terrible English (spoken is worst¡¡). Edna

monkey brains - the truth!

hi andrewI wonder if you would be able to tell me the truth about monkey brains? I have read so many rumours about it and cannot seem to establish whether in fact the eating of monkey brains is common place. If so, where particularly, and have you eaten them before? Are they a delicacy as some say? and what of that awful rumour I have heard where they are eaten while the poor animal is still alive? I would really appreciate any knowledge or experience you have in this area!
