Cruise Ship Continues to Party in Haiti

Huff Po reporting this story-- further proof that morons are dangerous. The boat should have docked and dropped supplies, and those willing to volunteer should have been allowed to do so. Those not willing should have been taken off and transferred to another boat. This is like driving in a bus past a 40-car pile-up with massive fatalities and stopping long enough to take a pee break. Ridiculous.

Please research this situation a bit more

Andrew, I enjoy your shows and your blog. However, on this particular topic I'd encourage you to do a little more research (and Huff Post doesn't exactly count). What would you have the cruise company do? Stop docking in Haiti for the foreseeable future? There are 250+ Haitians employed in that port who depend on the income. No ships means no income, and they certainly need it now most of all. So after discussing with Haiti and the UN, RCL decided to continue docking there. They are delivering food aid and donating profits to Haiti relief efforts. As to the behavior of some of the passengers, I do find partying on that beach to be pretty reprehensible myself, but let's not forget that these cruises were most certainly booked before the earthquake. Also, your idea of sending out cruise ship passengers as volunteers is ridiculous. Aid organizations have consistently said that money is needed, NOT unskilled, untrained volunteers, especially if they'd only be around for a few hours. What kind of logistical nightmare would 1000+ unskilled cruise passengers create in an already chaotic relief zone? Again, I think some morally questionable individuals are certainly acting reprehensible, but I think that the correct decision was made given all factors.
